Feel free to ask any questions you see from this animation, I'll be glad to help answer them if possible

Usually, a flash animator would fiercely guards his/her own flash animation source file from other people to see. but today, I will gladly show you guys, behind the scenes on how pokemon hunter looks like on the fla file

dont be awe of the amount of layers I used, this is already the average

I've work with layers near to their hundreds before...

so anyway, be patient to let it load cause its like over 15MB huge, but it shows you a new look and view on how the animation looks like outside the flash. and maybe, you may learn something new from watching how I animate.

in the future, I may do video tutorials on flash if I am able to pull it off and keeping it short and understandable.

Your pokemon hunter video actually inspired me to make a video of my own trainers team in a pokemon battle. Except rather that taking turns the fight is much more intense like how you portrayed it. Now I just need to figure out how I will animate it.

Wow, that's a lot of layers. Did you make this completely in flash? Or did you do some drawings in an art program?

hey,do you use motion tween or classic tween?(i use flash cs5 but am new)
do you do the body parts seperately, altogether,or both in different place?
howd you get the whole animation into one single scene?
and did you swap symbols?when i swap symbols, and then rewind the timeline, the old symbol is lost, why is that?
...........sorry,but you WERE the one saying that we can ask questions

I use flash 8, not the bullshit "Adobe" branding that took over macromedia. so classic tweening all day erry day

yes, you have to make the body parts separately to have the classic tween work

geting the whole animation into a single scene is just working everything in that white work box size given? I mean, thats to your camera skills on what u want the viewer to see?

yes I swap symbols, the symbol swapping thing may be a little buggy. usually if the symbol dosent change properly, u can try creating a new keyframe below it and do the swap. try to also keep the symbol format when u swap the same type ie. movie clip, movie clip or graphic symbol, graphic symbol.

This is so incredible to watch! I love watching an animators progress, you learn so much from it!

I did have one question about something I've seen in all of your completed animations and in other animations I've seen around dA. In your .fla file it's obvious you can see the excess bits that enter from outside the stage into the stage and so forth. I was wondering how you made it so when someone presses 'download' on say the completed version of your first PKMN Hunter animation you made it so just the orange background shows and not the excess shown coming in from outside the stage.

I'd be so grateful if you could help me out with this and thanks so much for reading this in advance!

you can always apply a mask over the entire layer you work on to cover out the "stage outside" when you are ready to submit the animation.

But masks only work on one layer don't they? I don't think I could mask every single layer I use;

I have some new questions, this time concerning sound (I use Flash 8 Pro).

1) I know that you need to import sounds into either the stage or library in order to use them, and then drag the sound file into the flash itself in order for the sound to be heard. However, when I hit the "Enter" button in an attempt to sync the animation with the music, the music doesn't stop playing. Any idea how to prevent this?

2) How do you crop (or stop) the music overall? For example, if I use a music track that's two minutes long, yet my animation is only thirty seconds long. How will I be able to "crop" the song into the thirty seconds desired (like using sound from the middle of the song itself)?

3) How do I stop a song in the end of the final animation overall if the full song isn't used? Do I put in something like a blank keyframe?

Newb in learning. there's alot of stuff happening from outside, in some cases more so than what's going on in actual shot! o.o Is that to help with the movement of the scenary/camera?

As I said just starting out, kinda annoying when you've got adobe flash and I'm watching your tuts in macromedia :'( but I'll get there anyhow.

wow :o I am actually not surprised at how many layers there are since its so good and has like a bajillion different camera angles, special effects, and characters! I mean when I animate if I go over 10 layers I freak out. haha good job :)
psst, think you could make some kind of tutorial on camera angles and special effects? (like fire/water/etc powers) thatd be so helpful! :)

I love that you did this. Flash confuses the hell out of me with camera movements and such, but it is so easy to follow here. My only gripe is that i wish this was an actual video file so that I could rewind and examine certain parts.
But great idea. :D

nope, I just create a new layer when I need it. besides many of my symbols jump layers after the long run due to transitions and etc so it dosent help much when I name them and then soon they don't represent what they are meant to be.

Ah I see, I can't imagine how difficult it must be, to have so much Layers XD

I see it should be more confusing when you name them, right?

How di you make the drawings? Do you sketch them in Paper, scan them and traced it in Flash? or draw you it directly in Flash? Do you use a tablet?

Sorry, have much to learn about flash, hope i don't bother you xD

no, I draw directly into flash cause I got a tablet. and you dont need a high-end one when working with flash.

Did you tecahed everything by yourself?

By the looks of this you made several separate animations in one flash file. Did you just do that for this tutorial? and if that was not the case how did you export each animation into separate parts with separate preloaders?
Reply
:iconnch85:
NCH85 Featured By Owner Oct 18, 2009  Hobbyist Artist
how can this be done just for this tutorial. this is what I did for that animation, everything is animated in its own parts. and no, theres no preloaders, preloaders are codes that stop your animation and let it download finish before playing it.

Amazing you did this great animation by using shape/motion tweens. :o
Q: At one point shards of ice radiate out from the centre of the frame, can you achieve this effect without each shard having it's own layer?
Props for showing the FLA file :D

I still need to seprate each movieclip, which is the ice shards to be on indvidual layers so i can tween them, since you can only tween one symbol in one layer.
