hey man, I've been watching your work for a long time, and I love your animation work. I'm actually starting to make an animation myself in the platform genre, and was just wondering how many individual sprites you use for your walking and running animations. (I don't have flash at the moment so can't dissect your work frame-by-frame..)

its done using tweening, so i actually just drew the body parts and move them about

it does look like there jogging but w/e i guess still smooth and clean animated sprites. hmm and it could just be me but this reminds me a little of the begining intro of "Bleach" i forget which one tho season tho.

I like the squishiness in the foot work. Good eye for detail. Did you make the pink one last? I'm seeing a increment in the sprites complexity from yellow > blue > pink.

That style of movement much more like for a beat-em-up game, or much like, a side-scrolling game.
What kind of genre is exactly you want to make for this game?

they don't look like their running. More like fast stepping it. Make sure that one foot is always off the ground for a run.

It has a very Paper Mario look and feel to it. Very nice, I like the white outlines too, makes 'em stand out more

It looks as if they're trudging through a swamp. All you'd need is the mud. XD

I find it cool how the art is cutout style. It fits the characters well, but... I think there's some problems with the third/yellow one, as, when it moves, the body overlaps a bit too much over the head.

Then again, this is coming from the guy who thinks that looks more like a box than a character, although it would be a box of explosives if it would be a box. >_>

There's like a final frame at the end of their walk cycle which makes them feel a bit heavier than they look.

If they didn't have legs (just feet) they'd be reminiscent of Paper Mario elements, which I'd really get a kick out of. :lol:

I think it's the white cutout lines around each segment of animation that got me on that mindset.

Doesn't quite look like a run, but it makes a good 'marching' walk. You know what they say, "what's no good for one thing is good for another" =D

A tip for run cycles: there should be at least a frame or two where both feet are actually off the ground. When you run, you're basically taking very short consecutive jumps by springing off your back foot. The reason you gain so much speed over walking is because you're thrusting yourself into the air in consecutive short bursts.

It's a good cycle, it just doesn't look quite like a run. I'd keep it and use it as a walk cycle.

How about a side-scrolling shooter?

Like think Otomedius, but side to side.

You could do it with minimal coding, and there's tons of ActionScript stuff online.

I mean, if I could do it, you DEFINITELY can...
