Background Story

Magic or Ether as it is called by the natives is a natural life force that exists in the world. Ether comes from the land itself and can be molded by trained wizards to perform magic. The ability of these wizards to cast their spells depends greatly upon the concentration of Ether around them. Most wizards with sufficient training are however able to store molded Ether for use later.

Ether is concentrated in several geographical locations and these places are known as Ether Havens. Magical towns are built around these Ether Havens where wizards and sorcerers from around the world gather. It is also around these Ether Havens that magical academies are built. Due to the high concentration of Ether in the surrounding lands, it will be relatively easy to train apprentices in the art of magic. The land around these Ether Havens also gives birth to magical creatures that the player will be able to interact with during the game.

man I loved this a lot I sure hope you guys are still developing this because it will be awesome. Theres a lot of little games like this that make really good money. Try making puzzles for students to figure out with your guidance. Building more onto the school should also be interesting as well.

Ok, you are probably not gonna read my pathetic little input on the game. I figured out the features pretty much on my own. anywho.

Here's some ideas, I kind of think you wont work further on this project, I hope I'm not correct in this assumption. But oh well... Suggestions here we go:

1) I think you should add explanations throughout the game, the mini game is kind of strange. I mean, I don't get why the old man is suggesting which colour potion I should make. It's not just obvious.

2) I think it should be possible to click on the students to see how far they've gotten in their education, a % list etc.

3) As somebody else said I think you should make it possible to make more floors.

4) maybe make lvls? Tutorials etc.? Well, you might not want this to be a whole "Theme Hospital" etc. But, I'd definitely buy the concept of the whole idea. Not that I have the money for it xD

All in all the game amused me :)

Version: 0.2.2
Age Group: >15, <25

a) Did you finish the game?
I don't really think games like this have a well-defined endings.

b) What was most memorable about the game?
Load times on the Potions minigame. Love the new icon.

c) What was most frustrating?
I still think some keyboard scrolling & hotkeys would be great, though the school itself is small enough that edge-scroll might be sufficient.

D) Are the Visual animations/graphics visible to you. ie, is it too small?
In some cases the graphics seem a little too big. The detail in the graphics is good; the graduation hat is a nice touch. It'd be nice to have a zoom function, though. I also suspect the fullscreen mode isn't running in my screen's native resolution and widescreen aspect ratio.

E) Is this game interesting? visually? concept?
Still like the concept; it has a great deal of potential. It's a pleasure to test. I found a repeatable bug: if you delete a room while room query is open for that room, the game crashes when the room query dialog closes or changes. Straightforward fix.

F) Any Gameplay ideas?
Some statistics would be really handy. Gameplay does get a bit old. Introducing some bonus and|or regular goals/tasks/objectives might spice things up.

Agreement with previous posts that the castle is a bit confined. It works as a sandbox for now. Maybe other locations/difficulties have different castle sizes/layouts? Or maybe make that a budget consideration? (I could probably make suggestions all day, but you might've already discussed these.)

really nice game, how is it written?
c++ or somthing else?

There's this weird thing that you can click classrooms through windows, and sometimes your courses become invisible!
I love this game, though. It got kind of boring after 100 students graduated, though. O_o I was impressed I was even able to sit there for that long... All my custom courses were really long.

I, luckily, have never had any problems with it opening and running on this version. :3

rooms need a few states between "unused" and "totally full appearance"

Wow... I'm glad some other people suggested the same things as I did. Looks to be coming along very nicely.
jsiu123 Featured By Owner Feb 12, 2008
I get pretty confused on what I should do in the game. For example where to click when facing those amoutns of icons. Anyways good luck with it :)
BariSaxGirlJ Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
I was pretty confused by the potion game, actually, but everything looks way cute! Also, it was a little irritating to slide left and right to see all of the rooms. Still seems like a neat game! Are you planning on releasing freeware or for profit?
LalalalaNanana Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
its looking so good! very fun, and potentially extreme addictive!! hehehe what did you use to make this?

keep up the aewsome work ^_^
BlazeMan Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
I got this wierd error saying something about the application not being configured properly and that I need to reinstall it. It still won't let me play...
uberspect Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
You saved it as .rar? Oh, poor Mac user me! :(
RaelenePrice Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
looks great, but i also got a error causing it to close,
not enough video card memory said the error, i think...
Ryco Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
I kinda miss the sprites but the 3d models are cute. I do find that it is easier to see everything, but using the keyboard arrows to move around quicker seems like a very necessary change it requires. Also maybe progress bars near the students to show how close to grad they are.
NCH85 Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008  Hobbyist Artist
whoa, they are still the same, just enlarged after many critics saying its too small before that
Ryco Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
Oh I know. I just thought the sprites were cute and had a little more character that's all. Personal thing.
Melethiel Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
Mine 'encountered an error and needed to close'... but I was having fun for the minute it was running!
Qurious Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
Tight! I like how it looks and plays.
Bakem0n0 Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
Good one, yep, i do agree it seems to be confined. Assigned keyboard quick keys would be awesome i guess. Hehe. Oh yeah add this on my faves :) Goodluck!
fudging Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
At 3x speed though, those kids just learn to masturbate when in their rooms. And they just don't stop! They never turn the lights out, they just stay out there, fap-fap-fapping away!
LalalalaNanana Featured By Owner Feb 11, 2008
ahahhaah this made me laugh. its very true... but very dirty minded!! tsk tsk!
NCH85 Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008  Hobbyist Artist
masturbation was the last word i really didnt expected to appear.... D:
Adalore Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I'd think it'd be neat if you just started with a small two story house, just large so you can fit a catine and one dorm room with the class room. then just get a castle built out. but that'd probly be a pain to set up.
fudging Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
Interesting. The school needs a much bigger castle, but the gameplay's shaping up well.

(And for people just checking this, do try the make your own course stuff because it's the whole point of the game really.)
ewitwins Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008  Student Interface Designer
It was good, I liked it, but I cant help but feel that it feels kinda confined, there isnt that much room for dorms and classrooms.
Chame Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008  Hobbyist Digital Artist
The potions minigame glitched for me after the first time i played.
Aret Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008  Hobbyist Writer
Oh my god, the students are so cute! And the potions mini game is fun. It confused me at first, but I figured it out pretty quick. It's cool.
PANDEM0NIUM Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
this game doesn't work on macs, does it?
Lol-Matt Featured By Owner Jun 22, 2008
Its's a RAR file, so you have to use a extraction program like 7-Zip to open it.
blindsyte Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008  Professional Digital Artist
anything works on macs with bootcamp or parallels
ZeekNyne Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
Tis an .exe so we are outta luck it seems. Probably also using direct x which is windows only and not OpenGL in a C++ setting.
royov Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2008
